Oregon Wine Reviews

The Wine Catz live in Oregon so we are a wee bit prejudiced. We like to try Oregon Wine and review, so you will see quite a few in here, especially after we begin our Oregon Winery Taste and Tweet tour, which we hope will encompass all Oregon Wineries - at least those that don't lock the doors and pull the blinds when they see us coming.

Maryhill 2009 Viognier Columbia Valley

Maryhill Viognier LabelIf you like chardonnay but sometimes wish it was softer, If you like Riesling but sometimes wish it was richer. We have a treat for you.

Maryhill 2009 Viognier from the Columbia Valley

Lush tropical fruit, flowers and toasty aromas open out to generous flavors -  mango, creme brûlée, peaches. Each smell and sip seems to offer a new variety of yum. Cold it felt more like a chard, as it warmed, more Riesling characteristics came forth.

Creamy mouthfeel and a long lingering finish.

As it warmed up in the glass it grew sweeter and we could have wished for a wee bit more acid for balance.

Overall, we found this to be a lovely, complex white. Delicious to sit and sip a cold glass on a warm day.

Melrose 2009 Riesling

Looking for a simple easy summer wine?

We liked this uncomplicated Riesling from Oregon. It has a  light appley and floral nose with overtones of sweet grass stems. On the tongue we tasted fresh apple juice and summer flowers. The low alcohol -  9.9 – would make this great hot weather sipper.
